Simon Baron-Cohen coined **mind blindness** — the inability to automatically understand that others have their own thoughts, feelings, and perspectives. Many people with AS don't seem to be aware that others have minds of their own. They focus on situations from only their own perspective.
This is not a lack of intelligence or selfishness — it is a neurological difference in how the brain processes social information. *"Mind blindness means that you do not understand that others have a mind."*
In clinical work, NTs with AS spouses report they "can't understand or predict their spouse's behavior" and "sometimes it makes them feel crazy." The NT partner uses theory of mind to infer what the AS partner is thinking; the AS partner relies on facts, logic, and explicit statements.
