**Sensory integration** is the brain's function of combining input from all senses into a complete picture of who we are physically, where we are, and what is happening around us. In AS, this integration is impaired. **Auditory integration** is the brain's ability to hear information and process it meaningfully. People with AS typically have problems processing auditory information. Practical strategies for sensory problems: - Note and write down specific sensory problems as they occur - Share the record with close people so they understand - Experiment with different management approaches - Example: if skin is sensitive to wool, look for cotton alternatives Sensory integration problems explain many daily struggles that appear "behavioral" but are rooted in how the AS brain processes and synthesizes sensory input. **Source:** Lovett, *Solutions for Adults with Asperger Syndrome*, Ch 5 (pp128-131) See also: [[Sensory Processing in AS]], [[AS Brain Structure Differences]]
