AS is an "invisible" diagnosis — few or no physical signs distinguish the adult with AS from NTs. This invisibility creates specific challenges: **For adults:** Difficulties in communication and social interaction are only obvious when AS and NTs must interact. Without a diagnosis, behaviors are misinterpreted — NTs see rudeness or callousness; the AS individual feels rejected for no reason. Anger, resentment, and confusion develop, putting relationships at risk. **For children:** Overstimulating situations, routine changes, or sensory overload cause "meltdowns" — intense emotional upset that looks like temper tantrums to observers. Parents face judgment ("undisciplined child," "bad behavior"), adding pain to an already difficult job. Diagnosis makes the invisible visible — the source of tensions becomes understandable and parties can seek solutions. **Source:** Lovett, *Solutions for Adults with Asperger Syndrome*, Ch 2 (pp48-49) See also: [[AS Misdiagnosis Risks]], [[Sensory Processing in AS]]
