People with AS do marry, often to NT partners. Distinct patterns emerge in partner selection:
**Why NTs are attracted to AS partners:** High IQ (impressive expertise in special interest), quietness mistaken for calmness (appealing after chaotic upbringing), rigidity perceived as strength of character, honesty and loyalty (appealing for those seeking stability).
**AS men:** Age is not a major consideration — some choose considerably older partners (someone to learn from, who will be more understanding). May also select "marginal" partners — minority status or physical problems — possibly less demanding socially.
**AS women:** Often straightforward, not interested in small talk or emotional conversation. May choose much older partners or those with health problems — "someone who may make fewer demands."
**Mike's story (opening case):** Married Meg not for love but because "the plan seemed to make sense" — she would work so he could study physics. He didn't even like her. Years later, after divorce, he pursued Christine as if on a "mission to marry again," not because of emotional connection.
**AS-AS marriages:** Limited information, but "having similar characteristics may lead to more understanding and less stress."
